Football Team Practces in Full Pads

Wednesday, August 13, 1997

Fort Collins-- For the past four days, Colorado State football coach Sonny Lubick has had glimpses of his team's progress during two-a-day workouts. Since fall drills opened last Saturday, the Rams have practiced in "shells"- shorts and helmets.

Today, Lubick plans to find out exactly where the Rams are in preparation for the team's 1997 season opener with Nevada on Aug. 30 at Hughes Stadium. Kickoff for the Ag Day game is 2 p.m. MT.

Lubick's team will put on full gear for the first time as the Rams will go through just one workout today. He has tentatively scheduled the first scrimmage of the fall for 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon on the practice fields south of Moby Arena. The team will hold another scrimmage next week as well.

"I've been happy so far with the effort of the players,"Lubick said. "We are making progress and working hard. Now things will change a little bit when we put on the pads. The tempo will be different until the players adjust to practicing in pads."

Players will spend this morning working in the weight room before this afternoon's practice session.

Colorado State will resume two-a-days on Thursday and Friday before Saturday's situation scrimmage. Two-a-day workouts will run through Saturday, Aug. 23.
