Thursday, June 26, 1997

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (June 26, 1997) - Colorado State University assistant softball coach Teri Klement has been named to the Pan-American Games softball team. The Pan-Am team will compete July 17-26 in Colombia, South America.

Klement was picked for the team after her outstanding play at the Softball Sports Festival held last weekend in Midland, Mich. In addition to Klement, Ram shortstop Sarah Fredstrom - a first-team All-America pick at the end of the 1997 season - was also selected to play in the festival. Fredstrom did not make the Pan-Am Games team, however.

The United States team will compete in the Pan-Am Games against Canada, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Netherlands-Antilles, Cuba and Brazil in a 10-day tournament. The winner of the tournament advances to the World Games held in Japan in 1999.

Klement concluded her playing career at Colorado State in 1991, leaving as the school record holder for career home runs, RBI, hits, batting average, doubles, triples and slugging percentage. She was the Rams' shortstop for four years before playing competitively in Europe for four years . She returned to Colorado State as an assistant coach in August 1995.
