Rams Ranked 23 in Preseason Football Poll

Thursday, June 5, 1997

Fort Collins -- Colorado State University's football squad is ranked 23rd in in the preseason poll to be released in The Sporting News college football preview later in the summer.

TSN lists the Rams as the odds-on favorite to win the Pacific Division and advance to the WAC title game Dec. 6 in Las Vegas.

Colorado State was last ranked during the early stages of the 1995 season when the Rams went on to win a second straight WAC title and Holiday Bowl appearance. The Rams in 1994 made school history by climbing as high as 10th in both major polls, and concluding the season 15th nationally following the team's first-ever Holiday Bowl invitation.

Several individual players received preseason honors by the national publication, including:

  • QB Moses Moreno, who threw for nearly 3,000 yards last season, was listed as the 11th best passing quarterback in the nation
  • Offensive lineman Anthony Cesario was named the country's ninth best offensive guard. He was honorable mention all-WAC a year ago
  • Defensive end Adrian Ross, who was a first-team all-league pick last year, is listed as the 12th best defensive lineman in the nation
  • FB Damon Washington, who gained 1,075 yards last year, is listed as one of the nation's most underrated players

More information can be found on the Sporting News page about Colorado State University. The logo there will be familar to long-time RamLine.com readers. The story may not be as familar - evidently the Sporting News doesn't know Utah from Colorado State. They will this year.
