RAM ASSISTANT COACH KLEMENT INVITED TO NATIONAL TEAM CAMP

Colorado State assistant softball coach Teri Klement has been invited to the Amateur Softball Association's national team camp held in Oklahoma City at the end of May.

The camp is a tryout for the 1997 United States national softball team. Klement earned the honor by being named All-American in the Women's Major nationals held in Connecticut this past summer. Players in the camp include the 1996 Olympic team members, current top collegiate players and any players named All-America during the summer of 1996.

Klement played at Colorado State from 1988-91, leaving as the school's all-time leader in home runs (13), batting average (.382), RBI (121), slugging percentage (.557), doubles (35), hits (210) and runs scored (95). Current Ram Sarah Fredstrom broke Klement's career mark in home runs last season and is currently ahead of her in slugging percentage, but Klement remains the school leader in the other five categories. She was named assistant coach in August 1995.

The coach of the 1997 national team has yet to be named as is the number of players who will make the final roster. The roster will be announced by June 7, the date of the first international tournament.

Klement, a native of Sylmar, Calif., was a member of the Southern California Jazz for the past two summers. The Jazz compete in tournaments throughout the United States and Canada. After leaving Colorado State in 1991, Klement played competitively in Italy and Holland until 1994.
