Colorado State University Hosts Workshop To Restore Historic Barns
Friday, August 7, 1998
FORT COLLINS--Colorado State University will host a workshop
that will teach participants how to give new life to old barns
and other log buildings.
"Barn Again! Log Barn Workshop" will be held on Colorado
State's Pingree Park Campus
Sept. 19-20. During the workshop, Harrison Goodall, a nationally
recognized expert in repairing log structures, will teach
participants techniques for restoration of historic log
buildings. Registration is open to the public.
"Many people grew up working and playing in barns," said
Bill Bertschy, director of the Pingree Park Campus.
"Unfortunately many of the old barns on small farms or large
ranches are in disrepair and in danger of being torn down. This
workshop teaches the skills we can use to preserve part of our
heritage."
The workshop is designed for owners and managers of historic
log barns or other log buildings, and for individuals and
contractors working on log buildings. Activities will include a
combination of lectures, demonstrations and hands on exercises.
"Barn Again! Log Barn Workshop" is sponsored by Colorado
State University Pingree Park Campus and Colorado Barn Again!, a
program of the Colorado Department of Agriculture, the Colorado
Historical Society, Colorado State University Cooperative
Extension and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. This
year, Colorado State received a $1,000 grant from the National
Trust for Historic Preservation to help support the workshop.
Enrollment in the workshop is limited to 25. The
registration fee is $100 if reservations are made by Aug. 15, or
$120 if reservations are made after Aug. 15. Meals and lodging
are provided.
