Rocky Mountain Raptor Program To Hold Open House May 17
Thursday, April 30, 1998
FORT COLLINS--The Rocky Mountain Raptor Program will hold an
open house May 17 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. to acquaint visitors with
the center's work with injured birds of prey.
The open house, free and open to the public, will be held at
the program's facility north of the Colorado State University
Veterinary Teaching Hospital, 300 W. Drake Road in Fort Collins.
Activities will include a tour of the center, opportunities
to talk with program volunteers and learn more about volunteer
opportunities, information on environmental education
presentations and outreach opportunities and the Adopt-A-Raptor
program.
Visitors can also meet permanently injured birds who reside
at the center, including a bald eagle, golden eagle, peregrine
falcon, northern goshawk, merlin, long-eared owl, red-tailed
hawk, great horned owl and others.
The Rocky Mountain Raptor Program, operated largely by
volunteers, takes in injured birds of prey and, with the services
of Colorado State's Veterinary Teaching Hospital, attempts to
rehabilitate birds and release them into the wild. Non-releasable
birds serve as role models for fledglings and younger birds who
are released.
The center's Raptor Gift Shop will be open and refreshments
will be served.
For more information on the open house, call (970) 491-0398.
