Student Work Showcased In Colorado State's All-University Undergraduate Research And Creativity Symposium April 8
Friday, April 3, 1998
FORT COLLINS--Colorado State University undergraduate
students will showcase their research and creative projects in a
universitywide symposium April 8.
The All-University Undergraduate Research and Creativity
Symposium will recognize students for their work and award
scholarships for outstanding achievements. More than 100
undergraduates will display research, creative work and
performing art pieces in the symposium. This year will be the
first year in which research will be showcased in conjunction
with creative and performing art. Previously, the two areas had
separate symposiums.
"This symposium is unique because of the focus on
undergraduate work," said Thomas Sneider, event coordinator. "The
symposium shows that research and independent creative work are
not only graduate and faculty activities, but are very much a
part of undergraduate life at Colorado State."
This year's symposium, held in the Lory Student Center, will
include oral presentations from
9 a.m.-noon in Room 208-210; posters and video presentations from
9 a.m.-3 p.m. in the Main Ballroom, and an exhibit of plastic
arts displayed in the Curfman Gallery.
An awards ceremony will begin at 3 p.m. in Room 228 of the
Lory Student Center. Philosophy Professor Holmes Rolston will
deliver a keynote address titled "Luck, Opportunity, Curiosity
and Hard Work" at the ceremony.
Faculty committees will judge the work submitted to the
symposium. Work judged to be of highest distinction will receive
plaques and $250 scholarships. Those submitting work judged to be
of high distinction will win $125 scholarships. Individual
colleges also will have the option to offer additional awards.
In addition, one $250 scholarship will be awarded to the
student who enters a poster which is determined to most
effectively communicate technical ideas in a way that is
understandable to lay audiences. The winning poster in this
category will be selected by a panel of media representatives.
