Colorado State's Engineering Building Campaign Benefits From Storagetek Gift

FORT COLLINS--Storage Technology Corp. has pledged a
$500,000 gift to the Engineering Building campaign at Colorado
State University.
The Engineering Building campaign will enable Colorado
State to expand its Engineering Building by 60 percent and
renovate laboratories with state-of-the-art equipment and
technology. The building's 280-seat auditorium, a facility which
is used for engineering events, universitywide lectures and
activities in the Fort Collins community, also will be renovated.
The renovated auditorium will be named for StorageTek.
"We value our partnership with StorageTek and their
continued support is greatly appreciated," said Colorado State
President Albert C. Yates. "StorageTek's commitment is an example
of the critical role the community plays in our efforts to build
facilities and programs that best support students' learning."
StorageTek made the gift to Colorado State as part of its
1998 community program which centers around the theme, flTargeting
Education and Knowledge.fl Based in Louisville, Colo., StorageTek
provides products and services that are used to store, transport
and secure information, from mainframe data to client/server
applications to video, audio and still images.
"Many of our employees are Colorado State graduates," said
David E. Weiss, StorageTek chairman, president and chief
executive officer. "We are pleased to again partner with Colorado
State University to help it continue to bring programs of
academic excellence to its students."
StorageTekfls past support of Colorado State has included
donations of equipment valued at more than a million dollars as
well as gifts to capital campaigns in the colleges of Business
and Engineering. StorageTek's partnership with Colorado State
also includes hiring of qualified Colorado State students and
graduates, research partnerships with faculty, and advising and
mentoring of student and departmental groups.
Construction on the Engineering Building project began in
November 1997 and will include renovation of 128,000 square feet
and the addition of 44,000 square feet to connect three separate
wings which now make up the building. The new space will provide
areas for integrated laboratories where students from across the
college will study and conduct research.
More than 80 percent of the expansion and renovation funding
has been allocated by the Colorado Legislature on behalf of the
citizens of the state. The remainder of the funding will come
>from individual and corporate support.
