Colorado State University Invites Undergraduates To Present Research And Creative Work
Wednesday, January 28, 1998
FORT COLLINS--Colorado State University undergraduate
students are invited to enter their research and creative work in
a university-wide symposium to be held April 8.
The All-University Undergraduate Research and Creative
Symposium is an opportunity for students to present their work to
the university community and to receive scholarships and
recognition for outstanding achievement. Undergraduates from
every college are invited to enter research, creative work, and
performing art pieces in the symposium. Interested students must
submit an intent to participate form to their college
representative by Feb. 22. The names of the representatives can
be obtained by calling the dean's office of each college.
"This symposium is unique because of its focus on
undergraduate work," said Thomas Sneider, event coordinator. "The
symposium shows that research and independent creative work are
not only graduate and faculty activities, but are very much a
part of undergraduate life at Colorado State."
Research projects may be entered by any student who is
working on a faculty-mentored research project. A faculty
committee will judge the research projects during the symposium.
Creative and performing art pieces may be submitted by any
undergraduate student. The pieces will be judged by a faculty
committee, and selected works will be entered in the symposium.
Students should register for the symposium through the
representative of the college in which they are enrolled, even if
the research project or creative work was done in a different
college.
Entrants submitting work judged by faculty committees to be
of highest distinction will receive plaques and $250
scholarships. Those submitting work judged to be of high
distinction will win $125 scholarships. Individual colleges will
also have the option to offer additional awards.

In addition, one $250 scholarship will be awarded to the
student who enters a poster which is determined to most
effectively communicate technical ideas in a way that is
understandable to lay audiences. The winning poster in this
category will be selected by a panel of media representatives.
This year will be the first year in which research will be
showcased in conjunction with creative and performing art.
Previously, the two areas had separate symposiums. This year's
symposium will include oral presentations, posters, videos and
slides presented in the student center ballrooms, and an exhibit
of studio art work displayed in the Curfman Gallery on campus.
