Colorado State University's College Of Engineering Recognizes Industry Leaders

FORT COLLINS--Colorado State University's College of
Engineering and Dean's Council board of directors recognized nine
leaders in the engineering field at the 17th annual Achievement
Awards banquet during Homecoming weekend.
The annual awards ceremony honors alumni and friends who
have made outstanding contributions to the engineering field and
to the College of Engineering.
This year's Individual Achievement Award was given to Allen
Rider, who graduated from Colorado State in 1966 with a master's
degree in agricultural engineering. Rider is president of New
Holland North America.
Personal Service Awards were given to Sam Clowney, director
of research at Tennessee Gas Pipeline; Edwin McDowell Jr., who
graduated from Colorado State in 1965 with a bachelor's degree in
civil engineering and is managing partner at Flatiron Companies;
and Darell Zimbleman, who graduated from Colorado State in 1966
with a master's degree in civil engineering and is the chief
engineer, associate general manager and treasurer of the Northern
Colorado Water Conservancy District and Municipal Subdistrict.
The Achievement in Academia Award was given to Otto Helweg,
who graduated from Colorado State in 1975 with a doctorate degree
in civil engineering and is currently the dean in the College of
Engineering and Architecture at North Dakota State University.
Distinguished Service Awards were given to Whitney Borland,
who graduated from Colorado State in 1938 with a master's degree
in civil engineering, and who is retired from the Denver Bureau
of Reclamation; and Commander Kent Rominger, who graduated from
Colorado State in 1978 with a bachelor's degree in civil
engineering and is a NASA astronaut at Johnson Space Center.
The Public Service Award was given to A. Ray Chamberlain,
who, in 1955, earned the first doctorate degree in civil
engineering ever given by Colorado State. Chamberlain is vice
president for Freight Policy of the American Trucking
Associations and a former president of Colorado State.
The Corporate Enterprise Achievement Award was given to the
Hewlett-Packard Company. In addition to working with Colorado
State in ongoing mentoring, scholarship and internship programs,
HP has been the university's most generous corporate donor.
