FORT COLLINS--Colorado State University students who plan to teach math
or science are eligible to apply for Rocky Mountain Teacher Education
Collaborative scholarships for amounts up to $3,000.
The RMTEC will award funds in September for the 1997-98 academic year.
Scholarships are funded by the National Science Foundation and designed to
increase diversity in teaching and to promote improved training for teachers.
"Funds are still available for fall and we encourage students to apply. This
is a unique opportunity to receive funding and be exposed to RMTEC, a
progressive teacher preparation organization," said Mary McAfee, diversity
coordinator for RMTEC.
Applicants must be full-time Colorado State students pursuing teacher
licensure in math or science or full-time students planning to transfer to
Colorado State and enroll in a math or science licensure program. Applicants
must have at least sophomore standing and have a demonstrated commitment to
increasing diversity within the teaching profession.
Candidates chosen to receive awards will attend RMTEC meetings and
participate in community service activities such as mentoring, tutoring and
diversity events on campus.
