Colorado State Names Vice Provost For Undergraduate Studies

FORT COLLINS--Colorado State University has appointed a vice
provost for undergraduate studies to oversee undergraduate
student programs, including student retention, recruitment and
the Honors Program.
Laurie Hayes, associate dean of curricular and student
affairs for the College of Agricultural, Food and Environmental
Sciences at the University of Minnesota in St. Paul, will begin
her new position at Colorado State on Sept. 8.
As vice provost for undergraduate studies, Hayes will be
responsible for the university's general education program and
serve as liaison for undergraduate projects to the Colorado
Commission on Higher Education. Her responsibilities also include
summer session and support programs for undergraduate students
such as the Help/Success Center.
"Laurie comes to Colorado State with considerable experience
and expertise in the area of undergraduate studies," said David
Young, provost and academic vice president. "She will be an
outstanding addition to the Provost's office."
Hayes has spent 30 years in academic and administrative
positions in higher education. Her academic career began in 1967
as a speech instructor at the University of Wisconsin. From 1972
to 1976, Hayes served as assistant to the director of the honors
program in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of
Minnesota in Minneapolis. She joined the staff at the University
of Minnesota, St. Paul, as an assistant professor in the speech
department in 1977 and has held numerous academic and
administrative positions at the university. As associate dean for
the College of Agricultural, Food and Environmental Sciences
since 1992, Hayes has provided general leadership and
administration for undergraduate curriculum, admissions and
recruitment efforts and student services such as orientation,
registration, academic advising, publications, scholarships,
honors programs and other activities.
Hayes earned a doctorate degree in communication arts and a
master's degree in speech from the University of Wisconsin and
bachelor's degrees in speech and theater arts education from the
University of Minnesota.
Hayes replaces David Clark, who left the provost's office in
January to take a position as associate vice chancellor of the
Colorado State University System. Hayes will earn $115,000 a
year.
