Colorado State University Unveils The Premier For '97

FORT COLLINS--Damage from the flood will be the last thing
on Colorado State University students' minds when they are
welcomed in style Aug. 24 at Colorado State's seventh annual
Premier.
The Premier, beginning at 7 p.m. in Moby Arena, is designed
as a fun and spirited way to welcome new students to campus. The
evening is the culminating event for Ram Fest, a new tradition
that features a week of activities for new students such as
games, concerts, movies and a cookout.
Following a traditional convocation, university
administrators, student-government representatives, residence-
hall staff and Ram athletes will be on hand to meet the students.
The university marching band, cheerleaders and the pom squad will
provide additional Ram spirit for the event, while freshman
football players will teach Colorado State's fight song to
students. Keith Miser, vice president for student affairs, will
lead the singing of the alma mater.
"The Premier is a wonderful way to launch students'
experiences with a sense of unity and pride in Colorado State,"
said Gwen Johnson, event coordinator. "It's also a great way for
new students to make the transition to college and help them get
to know each other."
Johnson said students are matched in groups according to
their home states, which enables them to interact and develop
relationships with other newcomers who may have similar
backgrounds.
The event has grown in popularity every year since it
started in 1991. About 300 people attended the first Premier,
while close to 3,000 students are expected to attend this year.
"Premier is a great way for new students to kick off the
upcoming year," said Jayna McCasland, assistant to the director
for Orientation Services. "We want them to feel at home in their
new surroundings and know we care about their success."
The Premier is sponsored by Colorado State's HELP/Success
Center, Housing and Food Services and the Lory Student Center.
