Colorado State University Connects With The State At The Fair
Thursday, August 14, 1997
PUEBLO--Colorado State University's exhibit at the Colorado
State Fair will feature an information kiosk, face decals and
fans, Cam the Ram and much more Aug. 16-Sept. 1.
More than 100,000 people are expected to visit this year's
university exhibit, "Connecting with You," in the Palace of
Agriculture Building. The exhibit will be open from 10 a.m. to
10 p.m. each day of the fair.
"This year's CSU fair exhibit is designed to be highly
interactive and show fair goers why Colorado State is one of the
premier universities in the country," said Kirvin Knox, vice
provost for agriculture and university outreach. "We've been
overwhelmed with the tremendous feedback we've had from
volunteers, with more than 100 faculty, staff, parents and alumni
eager to participate in the festivities in Pueblo."
Visitors and prospective students who attend the Colorado
State exhibit can speak with university representatives and use
the Colorado State Cooperative Extension kiosk, an interactive
program that will help them learn about Cooperative Extension and
Colorado State Forest Service programs. Visitors also can receive
special "Connecting with You" fans and have one of the always-
popular Rams face decals applied.
The university will feature focus areas on each weekend. The
Office of Admissions will highlight the first weekend, Aug. 16
and 17. Admissions counselors will be available to discuss
application requirements, financial aid and general university
information.
From Aug. 22-24, Colorado State's booth will highlight the
unique Little Shop of Physics program. The program was started by
Brian Jones, physics instructional lab coordinator and director
of the Little Shop of Physics, as a way to expand science
curriculum for elementary and secondary schools. Jones said the
shop uses everyday items to demonstrate scientific principles in
a way that makes science engaging and easily understood.
During the last weekend of the Colorado State Fair, Aug. 29-
Sept. 1, Colorado State's Forest Service and Cooperative
Extension will team up to create a special place for children,
complete with fun, hands-on activities and the opportunity to
plant native Colorado tree seeds. Children can then take these
"trees-in-waiting" home to help them grow.
"Planting a seed shows hope--a hope that we have for our
children and that our children have in their own future," said
Judy Serby, Colorado State Forest Service. "We want to connect
with Colorado youths who represent the future of our state."
The university also will have entries in the Fiesta Day
parade Aug. 17 and the State Fair parade Aug. 23. Local alumni,
Lorenzo de Zavala and National Hispanic Institute participants
and parents, and Cam the Ram will be prominently involved in the
festivities.
