Monday, August 11, 1997

FORT COLLINS--Poster enthusiasts will have the opportunity to enjoy some of the most compelling work in contemporary poster design at two satellite exhibitions in Fort Collins.

The satellite shows are part of the 10th Colorado International Invitational Poster Exhibition at Colorado State University, which runs Sept. 11-Oct. 24. Satellite shows also are scheduled on campus, the Loveland Museum and the University of Northern Colorado.

The Fort Collins Museum, 200 Mathews St. in Library Park, will feature an exhibition of 25 Russian posters marking the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II. The satellite show was organized by Moscow graphic arts historian Sergei Serov, who also is editor of the Moscow graphic design periodical GREATIS and director of the Golden Bee International Poster Biennial in Moscow.

The museum's exhibition runs Sept. 2-Oct. 23 and is free and open to the public. Museum hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and noon-5 p.m. Sunday.

Nearby, the One West Art Center at 201 S. College Ave. will host an exhibition titled "The 100 Best Posters from Europe and the United States: 1945-1990." The show is curated by prominent graphic artists Allan Weill, Milton Glaser and Yusaku Kamekura, and looks at exemplary poster design spanning the past 45 years.

The One West show is open in the main gallery Aug. 29- Nov. 1. Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. A public reception will kick off the One West exhibit 7-9 p.m. Aug. 29.

The 10th CIIPE features more than 400 posters by 120 graphic artists representing 34 countries. Honor laureate is Russian artist Vladimir Chaika, who won a gold medal for one of his posters at the ninth biennial poster event in 1995.
