Poster Shows In Fort Collins Part Of 10th International Exhibition

FORT COLLINS--Poster enthusiasts will have the opportunity
to enjoy some of the most compelling work in contemporary poster
design at two satellite exhibitions in Fort Collins.
The satellite shows are part of the 10th Colorado
International Invitational Poster Exhibition at Colorado State
University, which runs Sept. 11-Oct. 24. Satellite shows also are
scheduled on campus, the Loveland Museum and the University of
Northern Colorado.
The Fort Collins Museum, 200 Mathews St. in Library Park,
will feature an exhibition of 25 Russian posters marking the 50th
anniversary of the end of World War II. The satellite show was
organized by Moscow graphic arts historian Sergei Serov, who also
is editor of the Moscow graphic design periodical GREATIS and
director of the Golden Bee International Poster Biennial in
Moscow.
The museum's exhibition runs Sept. 2-Oct. 23 and is free and
open to the public. Museum hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday
through Saturday and noon-5 p.m. Sunday.
Nearby, the One West Art Center at 201 S. College Ave. will
host an exhibition titled "The 100 Best Posters from Europe and
the United States: 1945-1990." The show is curated by prominent
graphic artists Allan Weill, Milton Glaser and Yusaku Kamekura,
and looks at exemplary poster design spanning the past 45 years.
The One West show is open in the main gallery Aug. 29-
Nov. 1. Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through
Saturday. A public reception will kick off the One West exhibit
7-9 p.m.

The 10th CIIPE features more than 400 posters by 120 graphic
artists representing 34 countries. Honor laureate is Russian
artist Vladimir Chaika, who won a gold medal for one of his
posters at the ninth biennial poster event in 1995.
