FORT COLLINS--The work of a well-known African artist and a collection of posters from American designers will highlight satellite exhibitions in Loveland and Greeley as part of the 10th Colorado International Invitational Poster Exhibition.

The Loveland show, titled "UN Rights: A Collection of Posters by African Artist Chaz Maviyane-Davies," showcases posters with political themes, including the artist's own thoughts on colonialism in his native South Africa.

The Loveland Museum will host the exhibit through Oct. 31. The museum is at 503 N. Lincoln Ave. Hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday; 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Thursday; 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. Saturday; and noon-4 p.m. Sunday. The exhibition is free and open to the public.

The University of Northern Colorado in Greeley will showcase "American Designers," a collection of more than 80 posters from some of the best artists in America. The show is planned in the Mariani Gallery in Guggenheim Hall on campus from Sept. 12-Oct. 3. A reception will kick off the show from 5-9 p.m. Sept. 12.

The satellite shows are part of the 10th Colorado International Invitational Poster Exhibition, which opens Sept. 11. The exhibition, held at Colorado State University, will showcase more than 400 posters from artists around the world.

In addition to the Loveland and Greeley shows, satellite poster shows also are scheduled at the Fort Collins Museum, One West Art Center in Fort Collins, and the Direction Gallery and Glass Gallery at Colorado State.

The honor laureate for the 10th international poster show is Vladimir Chaika, a Russian artist who broke from official government design offices to work independently. Chaika's work, along with posters from the exhibition's juror, directors and Fort Collins high-school students, will be part of a separate exhibition that opens Sept. 11 at the Fort Collins Lincoln Center, 417 W. Magnolia St.

The poster exhibition is presented by Colorado State University, the Fort Collins Lincoln Center, Poudre School District, the Fort Collins Chamber of Commerce and the Fort Collins Convention and Visitors Bureau. Financial sponsors include Colorado State's department of art, the Colorado Council on the Arts, Fort Fund from the city of Fort Collins, the Elizabeth Firestone Graham Foundation and many private donors.
