Wednesday, April 16, 1997
FORT COLLINS--Colorado State University will hold its third annual All-
University
Undergraduate Research Symposium April 22 to recognize undergraduate students
for their
work in university labs and award up to $2,800 in scholarships.
"The symposium gives our students an opportunity to present the results
of their
research to the university as a whole," said organizer Thomas Sneider,
associate dean of the
College of Natural Sciences. "The symposium also reaches out to the broader
public to show
that research is not just something for graduate students and faculty. It is
a vital part of the
undergraduate experience."
The symposium will include both oral and poster presentations of work
by about 70
undergraduate students. Poster presentations will be made from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
in the Lory
Student Center East Ballroom. Oral research presentations are scheduled from
9 a.m.-noon in
Room 206-208 of the Lory Student Center. Diverse research topics include
studies of cancer,
tuberculosis, whirling disease in trout, spore production, business stress
management,
immigration policy analysis and many other topics.
An awards ceremony is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Room 228 of the Lory
Student Center.
Colorado State President Albert Yates will deliver introductory comments,
followed by a
keynote address by Patrick Brennan, a world-renowned microbiologist and
director of
Colorado State's Mycobacteria Research Lab.
Winning students will receive plaques and $250 scholarship awards for
up to five
student research projects determined to be of highest distinction, and up to
10 $125
scholarship awards for presentations determined to be of high distinction.
In addition, one $250 scholarship will be awarded to a student whose
