Colorado State University Faculty Women Honored As Role Models
Wednesday, April 2, 1997
FORT COLLINS--Professors Patsy Boyer and Mary Crow will be
honored as role models by Colorado State's Academic Faculty and
Administrative Professional Women's Caucus at a reception 4-6
p.m. April 16 in the Longs Peak Room of the Lory Student Center.
The event is free and open to the public.
Patsy Boyer, professor in the department of foreign
languages and literatures, and Mary Crow, English professor, each
will receive $1,000 from the Women's Caucus in recognition of
exemplary accomplishments.
Boyer, a recipient of the College of Liberal Arts John N.
Stern award this year, is being honored for outstanding
contributions to the status of women on campus. Colleagues praise
her as an invaluable friend, colleague and mentor, and also
praise the intellectual inspiration and assistance she gives
women faculty members during tenure and promotion processes.
Boyer was instrumental in bringing to campus the Gender
Infusion Project from the Southwest Institute for Research on
Women, which has received several important awards and honors.
She also was instrumental in developing Colorado State's Women's
Studies Program and the Women's Caucus. She was the first woman
to represent university faculty on the State Board of Agriculture
and has held leadership positions on many Faculty Council and
university committees. She taught courses in the Women's Studies
Program and courses on women writers in the department of foreign
languages and literatures.
Crow, recently named poet laureate of Colorado, is being
honored for outstanding achievement. Crow was selected as poet
laureate from among 54 applicants by Gov. Roy Romer in
recognition of her artistic excellence, service in the
advancement of poetry and interest in presenting poetry and
literature to the state.
She is an innovative and highly regarded teacher of creative
writing at Colorado State and a Poet-in-the-Schools participant
in Colorado and Wyoming. Crow has published seven books,
including poetry and translation, and her work has appeared in
numerous literary magazines, anthologies and books. She has given
poetry readings around the world and has spoken at a wide range
of scholarly meetings and conferences. She has been the recipient
of three Fulbright awards and a number of awards from the
National Endowment for the Humanities.
In honoring Boyer and Crow, the Women's Caucus recognizes
their exemplary accomplishments and extends its deep appreciation
to them for their service as role models for others.
The honors reception is sponsored by the College of Liberal
Arts, the departments of English and foreign languages and
literatures, and the Center for Science, Mathematics, and
Technology Education.
