Veterinary Teaching Hospital Hosts Open House April 4-6

FORT COLLINS--A petting zoo, exhibits, mock surgery and
presentations on a wide range of topics will be featured at the
18th annual open house April 4-6 at Colorado State University's
Veterinary Teaching Hospital, 300 W. Drake Road.
"We're inviting the public to come discover all the
different aspects of veterinary medicine we offer at the
hospital," said A. W. Nelson, hospital director. "Veterinary
students and faculty are committed not only to the highest-
quality care for household pets, wildlife and livestock, but to
improving the quality of life for people as well." The theme of
this year's open house is "...Not for Us Alone."
The hospital will be open for tours from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. April
4 and 5 and from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. April 6. Tours will run
continuously throughout the three days of the event, providing
visitors with overviews of the hospital focusing on animal health
care, research and education of veterinary medical students.
Tours of the Raptor Center will run April 5 and 6.
Governor Roy Romer has declared March 30-April 6 as
Veterinary Medicine Week to recognize Colorado State's role in
veterinary medicine.
Lectures will be held in Room B213 at the hospital. All
events and lectures are free and open to the public. The lecture
schedule follows.

* 10 a.m.--"Bits and the Bitting System for Horses" by Dr.
Dwight Bennett.
* 1 p.m.--"The Human-Animal Bond" by Dana Durrance.
* 3 p.m.--"So You Want to be a Veterinarian!" by Dr. Sherry
McConnell.
Sat., April 5
* 11 a.m.--"House and Garden Plants: Poisonous to Your Pets"
by Dr. Tony Knight.
* 1 p.m.--"Uniqueness of Camelids (Llamas and Alpacas) and
Their Owners" by Dr. LaRue Johnson.
* 3 p.m.--"Beef: A Safe and Wholesome Food" by Dr. Grant
Dewell.
Sun., April 6
* Noon--"Acupuncture: Its Role in Veterinary Medicine" by
Narda Robinson.
* 3 p.m.--"First Aid for Pets" by Dr. Tim Hackett.
