SPECIAL EVENT NOTICE

* Colorado State University will host the fourth annual Women of Color in Higher Education Conference, "Sisters: Dancing In, Among, and Between Cultures," March 13 and 14 on the Fort Collins campus.

About 500 women from around the state will attend the conference. In recognition of the two-day conference, Fort Collins Mayor Ann Azari has proclaimed March 13 and 14 as Colorado Women of Color Days in Fort Collins.

The two-day seminar features keynote sessions, workshops and panel discussions designed to cultivate professional network opportunities, develop mentoring relationships and provide a forum to address the critical issues that impact the lives of women of color in Colorado higher education.

Dawn Person, assistant professor of higher education and co- coordinator of student personnel programs at Teachers' College at Columbia University, will deliver the opening keynote address, "Sisters Creating a New Dance Through Coalition Building," at 2 p.m. March 13 in the Lory Student Center.

Registration is $35; $10 for students. Registration is limited to 500. Early registration is strongly encouraged. For more information, call Conference Services at (970) 491-7501.

* "Lead and Light," an exhibit by John Kissick, artist, author, critic and faculty member at the School of Visual Arts at Pennsylvania State University, runs March 23-April 25 at the Clara Hatton Gallery of the Visual Arts Building. * "Threads of the World," an exhibit featuring dress and textile artifacts from the Historic Costume and Textiles Collection, runs through April 4 at the Lory Student Center Curfman Gallery. * Colorado State University's Office of Resources for Disabled Students presents its annual Disability Awareness Days March 17-21. The theme for this year, "Don't DIS My Ability," was selected to celebrate the experience of individuals who have disabilities, without "dis-ing" their abilities. A schedule of events follows. March 17
- Learning Disabilities, noon-2 p.m., Room 202-204 LSC. Video presentation and discussion related to the nature and effects of learning disabilities in an educational environment.
- Wheelchair Users: Differences and Similarities, 4-5 p.m., Room 202-204 LSC. Not all people use wheelchairs exactly the same. This panel presentation will help clarify some of these differences. Sponsored by the Disabled Student Action Group.
March 18
- Geri Jewell, day-long showings, Sunken Lounge. Video presentation of comedian Geri Jewell and her views on disability in society.
- Office of Resources for Disabled Students, 9 a.m.-2 p.m., LSC Sunken Lounge. Information will be available to explain the role of this student support office on campus and services available to students with disabilities.
- Recreation Opportunities, noon-1 p.m., Sunken Lounge. Information on recreation activities available in the community through Fort Collins Parks and Recreation.
March 19
- "Is What You See What You Get?" noon-1:30 p.m., Room 228 LSC. Sponsored by the Women at Noon series of the Office of Women's Programs and Studies.
- Living Healthy with a Chronic Illness, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Sunken Lounge. Informational display on chronic illnesses and wellness issues. The event is part of Wellness Wednesday, sponsored by Hartshorn Health Service.

March 20
- American Sign Language 101, noon-1 p.m. Sunken Lounge. Demonstration of sign language and information about Deaf Culture, presented by the Colorado State's Sign Language Club.
- Recognition of Outstanding Effort Award, 6-8 p.m., LSC West Ballroom. Announcement and presentation of 1997 award winners. Winners of the Barrier Free Design Contest also will be announced. The Physically Handicapped Amateur Musical Actors League will present "PHAMALY," a theatrical performance, as part of the evening's events.
March 21
- Barrier Free Designs, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Sunken Lounge. Display of winning designs by Colorado State interior design students.
- "In the Land of the Deaf," 9:30 p.m., LSC Theatre. Critically acclaimed documentary takes viewers on a journey through the world of silence. Admission is $2.50.

* The Office of International Student Services at Colorado State University hosts Foreign Language Camps for students and community members March 22 and April 5. Native speakers of German, French, Spanish and Japanese will lead participants in a day of cultural and language immersion.

The German, French and Spanish Language Camps run Sat., March 22, and the Japanese camp runs Sat., April 5. Requirements for participation in the camps are one to two semesters of the language or an equivalent.

Deadline for registration is March 19 for the German, French and Spanish camps and April 2 for the Japanese camp. Cost is $6, which includes all food and materials.
