Animal Scientist Receives National USDA Award

FORT COLLINS--Nancy A. Irlbeck, Colorado State University associate professor of animal sciences, recently received the 1996 Excellence in College and University Teaching Award.

The award, which is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges, includes a stipend of $2,000 to be used for the improvement of teaching at the recipient's university.

Irlbeck's instructional courses include animal nutrition, feeds and feeding, feed formulation, pet nutrition, applied nonruminant nutrition, zoo nutrition and veterinary feeds and feeding. In addition to organizing three "Women in Agriculture" seminars, Irlbeck facilitates summer freshman orientation for the College of Agricultural Sciences and established the College's Peer Advisor Program.

Irlbeck's research focus is zoo nutrition. She is the consulting nutritionist for the Denver Zoo.
